Insurance plans do not currently cover light therapy as it’s considered an elective treatment. However, to make this treatment more affordable to our Nashville, Goodlettsville, and Hendersonville patients, we accept financing through CareCredit®. This third-party lender allows patients who qualify to pay for their care in affordable monthly installments.
The Conditions Dr. Choate Can Treat and How Low-Level Light Therapy Can Benefit You
Dry Eye Syndrome
Dry eye syndrome is often caused by meibomian gland dysfunction, a condition in which oils harden in the meibomian glands and prevent them from secreting the quantity and quality of oil you need for a stable tear film.
LLLT or IPL can be used to heat the eyelids. This melts the hardened oils in your meibomian glands, reduces inflammation, and curbs bacterial growth. With LLLT, patients may require just one or two treatment sessions to experience relief. However, because dry eye syndrome is a chronic condition, patients typically need repeat treatments to maintain their results.
Styes
A stye is a bacterial infection of an oil gland or hair follicle that causes swelling along the edge of the eyelid. Styes can be painful, but can often be treated at home with a warm compress and gentle massage. If at-home methods don’t work, LLLT can reduce inflammation, promote healing, and speed up recovery.
Chalazia
A chalazion is a swollen bump on the eyelid that forms when a meibomian gland becomes blocked. If at-home methods like applying a warm compress have failed to reduce your chalazion, Dr. Choate may recommend low-level light therapy as a treatment option.
Demodex Blepharitis
Demodex mites live inside human hair follicles and usually don’t cause problems. In large numbers, they can cause Demodex blepharitis, the inflammation and irritation of the eyelids. If you’re experiencing symptoms like itching, burning, and redness, Dr. Choate can diagnose your condition. If we find Demodex blepharitis is the cause of your concerns, LLLT can help.
Rosacea
Rosacea is a long-term redness of the face and it can affect the sensitive eye area. Low-level light therapy and intense pulsed light therapy can reduce the redness and visible blood vessels associated with this skin condition.
