Walter Choate, O.D.
Education and Training
Walter Choate, O.D., earned a B.S. in biology from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi in 1973. In 1979, he graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. Since then, he has been practicing as a private eye care physician in the Nashville area, near Hendersonville, Tennessee. Dr. Choate is also an FDA investigator and consultant for contact lens-related products and equipment.
Dr. Choate is board-certified in the treatment and management of eye diseases in the state of Tennessee, and is also credentialed for the management of refractive surgery patients.
Memberships and Affiliations
As one of the most prominent eye care physicians in Nashville, Walter Choate, O.D. is a member of many professional organizations. Dr. Choate is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a charter member of the American Optometric Association's Contact Lens Section. He serves on the editorial advisory boards of Primary Care Optometry News, Review of Optometry, and Optometry Times. In addition, Dr. Choate is an adjunct professor at Southern College of Optometry, the University of Houston College of Optometry, the University of Missouri - St. Louis School of Optometry, and the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Optometry. He is an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where he enjoys medical mission work. He is also past president of the Madison-Goodlettsville Rotary Club. When not at work Dr. Choate enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and fishing.
Lauren Goldsmith, O.D.
Lauren Goldsmith, O.D., graduated from the University of Virginia in 2006, earning a Biology major and Latin minor. She received a doctorate degree from Southern College of Optometry (SCO) in 2010. At SCO, Dr. Goldsmith actively participated in student government and was selected to be a student ambassador for the college. She was selected to be an officer of Gold Key International Honor Society, and served as president and vice-president of Omega Delta.
Dr. Goldsmith completed a post-doctorate residency at West Tennessee Eye in Memphis, Tennessee, upon which she received advanced training in the management of ocular disease, post-operative care, ocular injections, contact lens care, and pediatrics. After completion of her residency, Dr. Goldsmith elected to accept a position at Choate Eye Associates, due to its longstanding reputation of excellence in contact lens, optical, and medical eye care.
Dr. Goldsmith is currently working to complete a fellowship with the American Academy of Optometry. She maintains professional affiliations with the American Optometric Association, American Academy of Optometry, the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians, and the Middle Tennessee Society of Optometric Physicians. Dr. Goldsmith has been featured in Vision Monday and Women in Optometry optometric journals, and has provided eye care on mission trips to North, Central, and South America. Outside of work, Dr. Goldsmith enjoys running, volleyball, basketball, and spending time with her dog, Poppy.
